Evaluator Resources

The practice of evaluating involves tracking performance and behaviour and recording results. Evaluators require resources such as charts as forms in the pursuit of their job. Ringette Canada offers a number of official documents that Evaluators can use.

NOCP Evaluator Handbook

The NOCP Evaluator Handbook has been developed to help Evaluators navigate the standard expected at each officiating level. It is designed to be used on a phone, tablet, or eReader. It is available in PDF from https://drive.google.com/file/d/1LdpkYpjm0XVPt35ZNFicS-5qAA2-BhHy/view?usp=drive_link, and as an eBook from https://storage.googleapis.com/nocp-videos/Nocp%20Videos/Evaluators/Handbook/NOCP%20Evaluator%20Handbook.epub

Official Forms

Evaluators should obtain printed versions of these forms from their Provincial Sport Organization (PSO). Printed versions will be two-copy forms with carbon copy so that the Evaluator may retain a copy after delivering it to the official. Some provinces will not require the carbon copy. In this case, you may choose to print the version of the form attached here and take photos when you need to retain or submit a copy.

The On-ice Official Evaluation Form

This is Ringette Canada's standard form for recording an Evaluation. The linked version is a 2-up file allowing for printing on standard letter-sized paper and cut in two.

The On-ice Official Development Form

This form is to be used to provide feedback to new officials on U10 games or to record ongoing feedback during an event before a composite evaluation. These forms may also be used when the complexity of a game is low to the point that it would result in a rank lower than the official currently holds.

Rank Table

The rank table identifies the On-ice Official ranks and how they are associated with level of play. The Target Rank for any game can be found where the Game Calibre (on the left) intersects with the age division (at the top). As you place your cursor above any intersection in the table, a teal section will be highlighted, indicating the potential ranks that can be assessed on a game at that level.

Charts

Charts allow an Evaluator to track and record performance and behaviours throughout a game. Evaluators are not required to use any specific chart. You should choose the one that works best for you. You are also welcome to make your own version using the resources available here.

Simple Single-Sided Chart

This is the chart recommended for beginners. This is a simple, one-sided chart with a large rink diagram, space for 16 penalties (or other incidents) and space to collect notes for two officials.

This pdf contains two identical pages so evaluators can print double-sided, utilizing one sheet of paper for two games.

Simple Double-Sided Chart

This chart will handle the note-taking needs of most evaluators from beginner to advanced. The front page has a large ring diagram and space for 25 penalties (or other incidents). The opposite side has plenty of room to collect notes for two officials. This chart is intended to be printed double-sided. In use, it should be folded in half (top-to-bottom), allowing quick access to the notes section with a simple unfolding to expose the penalty chart again.

Intermediate Single-Sided Chart

This chart is a slight departure from more simple versions. This is a one-sided chart with two mid-size rink diagrams (one for each half), space for 18 penalties (or other incidents) and space to collect notes for two officials. It adds an additional statistic of recording goals by period.

Single-Sided Chart With Early/Late Statistics

This is a more advanced chart. This chart is one-sided, with a large rink diagram and space for 16 penalties (or other incidents). It adds a table for each official where you can collect statistics such as early and late arrivals (or departures) at stationary positions and a large, free-form section to collect notes.

Double-Rink Chart With Early/Late Statistics

This is a modest deviation from the more advanced chart. Rather than one rink diagram, this chart has two mid-size rink diagrams (one for each half) and space for 18 penalties (or other incidents). It adds a table for each official where you can collect statistics such as early and late arrivals (or departures) at stationary positions and a small, free-form section to collect notes.

Comprehensive Diagramming Chart

This is an advanced chart. This double-sided chart has a large rink diagram and space for 24 penalties (or other incidents). It has an additional 20 smaller rink diagrams for better illustrating on-ice incidents. There is note-taking space, but it is on the smaller side. This pdf contains two identical pages so evaluators can print double-sided, utilizing one sheet of paper for two games. This chart is intended to be printed double-sided. Pages can be cut in half and arranged in a half-size binder or spiral notebook.

Abbreviated Chart

This is a more advanced chart due to the nature of how penalties are recorded in the penalty table. The top row of the table provides an example of how to complete it. This chart is one-sided, with a large rink diagram and space for 18 penalties (or other incidents) and space to collect notes for two officials.

Calibration Files

Evaluator Calibration is a critical component of the Certification Upgrade and Maintenance Processes. These files are provided here to assist PSOs, Evaluators, and Instructor Facilitators deliver calibrations.

Calibration Wall Form

During an Upgrade Calibration session, candidate evaluators will compile their evaluation results on this form so that the group can debrief and work towards getting on the same page with how they conduct their evaluations. The attached pdf is designed to print on 20" x 30" poster paper. These should be laminated for use with dry-erase markers. The pdf can also be used to create a slide deck.
